Breathe Easy with a Bedroom Refresh

From outfit changes to late-night scrolling sessions, your bedroom does more than just host your 8 hours of sleep (if you’re lucky). But when wardrobes are bursting, drawers won’t close and the floor doubles as a laundry pile, it can be hard to relax.

For week 3 of the Great Aussie Clear Out, we’re turning our attention to the bedroom. Read on for tips to help you clear space and find new love for the stuff you no longer need.

15. Pick Out 5 Things You Haven’t Worn in a Year

Let’s kick off with a wardrobe reality check. Choose five items you haven’t worn in the last 12 months. And be honest: if it doesn’t fit, doesn’t suit, or you forgot you owned it, then it may be time to let it go.

16. Sort Your Socks

The sock drawer: home of lost causes and lone rangers. Lay them all out and match pairs, recycling any unmatched ones via Upparel or RCYCL.

17. Tidy Your Bedside Table

It’s truly amazing what accumulates in bedside drawers. Clear everything off and out of the tables, only putting back what you really need and use regularly.

18. Fold and Assess Your T-Shirts

Your T-shirt collection deserves some love. Pull them all out (yep, all of them). Fold each one and ask yourself: Do I wear this? Do I like it?

Re-home anything you haven’t worn recently or that doesn’t feel good on. Good quality tees can be sold on the Garage Sale Trail or donated to a local op shop.

Pro tip: turn t-shirts at the end of their life into cleaning cloths.

19. Do a “One Drawer” Blitz

Feeling overwhelmed? Keep it simple. Choose one drawer - maybe pyjamas, activewear or underwear - and give it a quick blitz. You’ll be amazed what 10 minutes can do.

20. Bag Up Any Clothes to Sell or Donate

Letting go is easier when you know your items will go to a good home. Grab a bag or box and start filling it with good-quality clothing, shoes or accessories you no longer wear.

Keep items to sell on the Garage Sale Trail (8-9 & 15-16 November) or donate to a local op shop, calling ahead to check what they accept and donate during in-store hours.

21. Organise Jewellery, Accessories or Belts

These smaller items often end up tangled, buried or forgotten. Lay out your jewellery, accessories, belts and scarves. Untangle what’s worth keeping and re-home the rest.
